1. How does Delta work?
Delta is a voluntary programme funded through European Social Fund and the Department for Employment and Learning. Participants can choose to do course only, work placement only or course and work placement combined. In regard to hours spent on Delta, programme is flexible and allows participants to choose that which suits their personal circumstances/needs.
2. How can I apply to the Delta Project?
Contact Omagh District Training Consortium at 028 8224 6535 and arrange an initial interview with the Delta Co-ordinator. You can also visit the Delta Website at www.odtc.info and complete the Initial Enquiry Form found on this site.
3. What kind of training is available through Delta?
Training is designed to suit individual needs. A participant will discuss the options and choices with the Delta Co-ordinator and an agreed plan will be drawn up in order to assist participant achieve their chosen career.
4. What else does Delta have to offer?
Delta offers all participants the opportunity to:
• Follow a course/s to achieve qualifications
• Train in a work placement to achieve necessary skills to enable them to apply for jobs in their career choice.
• Attend a Personal Development/Job Search course which will help them to increase their confidence and self-esteem. To update their skills in regard to C.V.’s, application forms and preparing for interviews.
• Participate in a Team Building event held at an outreach centre following outdoor/indoor activities to help increase confidence, communication skills, working as part of a team as well as meeting new people and having fun.
• Receive additional help to improve I.T. skills, Essential skills as well as Key skills in Communication and Application of Number.
5. Who is eligible for Delta?
Anyone between the ages of 18 to 59 who is unemployed as well as those people who work less than 16 hours a week.
6. What can a participant expect on placement?
Participants whilst in their placement will be trained on all necessary skills needed to help them secure employment in that career.
7. What financial incentives/opportunities are available?
Whilst on Delta financial support is given to all participants who require help with the following:
• Childcare
• Dependant care allowance
• Travel
• Other expenses attached to course/ placement
Delta also has bonus payments of up to £400 which all participants can accrue over 26 week period. The £400 is made up as follows:
• £100 in regard to completed qualification/s
• £100 in regard to completed work skills as agreed on their training plan.
• £100 in regard to completion of personal development/job search and team building courses.
• £100 in regard to successful outcome such as Full-time work/ Part-time work over 16 hours or into another training programme like New Deal.
8. What qualifications can I gain from participating in the Delta scheme?
Participants will choose qualification/s which will benefit them in their career choice. For example – NVQ’s in Administration/ Childcare/ Beauty Therapy/ Hairdressing/ Caring/ Joinery/ Retail etc. Stand alone qualifications such as: ECDL/ CLAIT/ Word Processing/ Health & Safety/ Basic Food Hygiene/ CSR etc. Whilst these are all examples, the list is not limited.
9. How will this affect the benefits I am currently claiming?
Delta does not impact on any benefits the participant is in receipt of. Checks will be made before commencing Delta to ensure that this is the case.
10. What allowances are available for Childcare costs?
Participants requiring childcare for 1 or more children can use either a Registered Childminder or an immediate family member. It provides for both Full Time and After School care required for children. It is offered to both lone parents and married women/men.
11. Would a participant be allowed to change course whilst on the Delta Project?
Yes, Participants can decide to move in another direction whilst on Delta or they can taste a number of career options at the same time.
12. What happens after I finish the Delta programme?
The aim is to improve employability and hopefully you go into full-time or part-time work over 16 hours or move into another training programme like New Deal, so outcome is showing a success and a progression for each participant.
13. What if I do not like it? Can I leave Delta or change course?
Delta is a voluntary programme and if at any stage a participant feels the need to leave or move in another direction, they are free to do so.
